The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has refuted allegations of summoning a well-known television personality, widely believed to be Vice Ganda, in connection with their recent fried chicken advertisement for a fast food chain.
Reports suggesting that the regulatory board called in the "It's Showtime" host circulated on social media after a satirical account on X (formerly Twitter) implied that the government agency found Vice Ganda's manner of eating fried chicken in the commercial unacceptable.
MTRCB Chairperson Diorella "Lala" Sotto-Antonio dismissed these claims as "malicious and false," asserting that they had not issued a summons to any "specific celebrity who featured in a recent TV commercial for a fast-food establishment."
The MTRCB emphasized the importance of verifying news and scrutinizing information sources before sharing in the digital age. They also voiced their support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Presidential Communications Office's (PCOO) efforts to combat disinformation and misinformation.
"We firmly believe in putting an end to the era of fake news and promoting the prevalence of truth," added the MTRCB.
This statement from the government agency follows the return of the Kapamilya noontime show "It's Showtime" to the airwaves after a 12-day suspension imposed by the MTRCB earlier in the year. As of the current moment, Vice Ganda has not issued any statements regarding these allegations.
