On Wednesday, December 28th, actor Jomari Yap took to social media to defend the film "My Teacher" from criticism that it was a flop. In his Facebook post, Yap wrote that those calling the film a flop were like flies, and that they should "just play around." According to unofficial box office rankings, "My Teacher" has been performing poorly compared to other films in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), with "Partners in Crime" starring Vice Ganda and Ivana Alawi currently holding the top spot.
There have also been reports that "My Teacher" is being removed from some theaters and replaced with "Partners in Crime" due to low ticket sales. This news has likely contributed to the negative perception of "My Teacher's" performance. In addition to defending "My Teacher," Yap also criticized an unnamed film creator in the MMFF, stating that they deserved to not win an award after previously speaking negatively about Yap's film "Maid in Malacanang." While Yap did not mention a name, it is believed he was referring to director Joel Lamangan, who directed "My Father, Myself."
“Ngayong di nanalo ng award yung pelikulang ang mga gumawa ay sobrang makabash at makasira sa #MiM—sigaw nang sigaw ng TANGKILIKIN PO NATIN ANG PELIKULANG PILIPINO!!!. So ano yung #MAIDinMALACAĆANG? Foreign Film? Gawa ng Alien? EDI KAYO NA LANG ANG PILIPINO. HAHAHAHA. Mga trip nyo, pang loser talaga.”
Overall, it seems that "My Teacher" has been facing some challenges in terms of its performance in the MMFF. However, it is important to note that box office rankings can be influenced by a variety of factors, and it is not uncommon for films to have fluctuating success. It is possible that "My Teacher" may still find an audience and perform better in the future.
