Toni Gonzaga faces backlash over 'flopped' MMFF film, remains silent

On December 27, seasoned showbiz news reporters Cristy Fermin and Romel Chika of the Cristy Ferminute program discussed the low ticket sales of Toni Gonzaga's film "My Teacher" at the Metro Manila Film Festival 2022. They noted that Gonzaga's online following did not translate to strong earnings for the film, and pointed out how it was outperformed by Vice Ganda and Ivana Alawi's "Partners in Crime" on the opening day of the festival.

The hosts speculated that the awards night might improve the film's performance, but ultimately "My Teacher" only received the Gender Sensitivity award.

Netizens have also expressed concerns about whether Gonzaga's 20th anniversary concert in January 2023 will have the same turnout as her film at the MMFF. Despite the film's reported performance being a topic of discussion online, Gonzaga has remained silent on the matter.

Some have speculated that she may be avoiding the issue in order to focus on her upcoming concert. Regardless of the reasons behind her silence, it is clear that "My Teacher" has generated a significant amount of attention and discussion among the public.
