Vhong Navarro surrenders when a judge orders his arrest

On Tuesday, September 20, comedian-host Vhong Navarro surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after a Taguig court ordered his detention for the acts of lasciviousness lawsuit filed by model Deniece Cornejo on Monday, September 19.

According to an ABS-CBN News report, Navarro's lawyer Alma Mallonga stated that the actor will surrender to the National Bureau of Investigation, but that his camp will continue to seek a reversal of the order to issue an arrest warrant.

“Mr. "Navarro affirms that he is the subject of Serious Illegal Detention and Grave Coercion," Mallonga was quoted as saying.

The bail amount proposed was P36,000. The 14th Division of the Court of Appeals (CA) overturned and set aside the DOJ's prior rulings from 2018 and 2020, which dismissed Cornejo's 2014 complaint alleging Navarro of attempted rape. The CA then authorized the Taguig City City Prosecutor to bring charges against the actor for rape by sexual intercourse and acts of lasciviousness.

The suggested bail was P36,000. In July, the Court of Appeals' (CA) 14th Division overturned and set aside the Department of Justice's (DOJ) prior resolutions from 2018 and 2020, which dismissed Cornejo's 2014 complaint alleging Navarro of attempted rape.

The CA then authorized the Taguig City City Prosecutor to pursue rape by sexual intercourse and acts of lasciviousness charges against the actor. Cornejo filed a complaint against the actor on January 22, 2014, the night of a notorious event that left Navarro seriously wounded. Cornejo, Cedric Lee, and their other associates, according to Navarro, assaulted him and extorted him. Meanwhile, Cornejo's team claims that he was injured while attempting to rape Cornejo.
