Atom Araullo remembers Yolanda's wrath


The SUPER Awards, which honor journalists who put their lives in danger while chronicling the devastation of super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in November 2013, have named three news reporters from ABS-CBN as winners. 


At a ceremony to be held Monday night at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, 17 other members of the media, including "TV Patrol" anchor Ted Failon, "Umagang Kay Ganda" presenter Atom Araullo, and Ranulfo Docdocan of ABS-CBN Tacloban, will also get SUPER Awards.



Love Anover, Jiggy Manicad, and Micael Papa of GMA 7 are among the other winners, as are Joecel Huesca of GMA Iloilo, Greggy Magdadaro of GMA Cebu, Benjie Dorango and Erwin Tulfo of TV5, David Santos of Solar News, DJ Yap of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Tara Yap of the Manila Bulletin, Lelaine Jimenea of The Philippine Star, Lorele Three media professionals who lost away while serving in the military at the time Yolanda made landfall will also get posthumous awards. They are Ronald Vinas and Allan Medino from DYVL Tacloban, Archie Globio from DYBR Tacloban, and Ronald Vinas.



The SM Foundation Inc. is the sponsor of the SUPER Awards (SMFI). In the course of duty, some members of the media have given their life. Even though they were aware of the threat the typhoon may pose before it made landfall, they persevered in covering the event. We now wish to recognize a select group of media professionals for their commitment and unmatched bravery, according to Debbie Sy, executive director of SMFI.
