Susan Roces, a Philippine cinema star whose career lasted 70 years and who was still working until recently, has died. She was 80.
Roces, who would have turned 81 on July 28, died on Friday evening, according to her daughter, Senator Grace Poe.
FPJ was Roces' first and only boyfriend before becoming her spouse. Despite being courted by men from various walks of life, Roces had just one heart.
Roces remained unmarried till her death after the death of the action king in 2004. Roces, who was born in 1941 to a French-American mother and a Filipino father of Spanish-Chinese origin, was a member of one of the country's most powerful clans, the Locsin family of Negros Occidental.
Their progenitor was Wo Sin Lok, a hawker from Xiamen who was baptized into the Catholic church as Agustin Locsin. He later married Cecilia Sayson of Molo, Iloilo. Roces was the second of four daughters born to Dr. Jesus Sonora and Purificacion Levy. Bennett is the oldest sister, Teresita is the third, and Rosemarie, who is also an actress and the mother of Sheryl Cruz, is the youngest.
Roces and FPJ eloped at daybreak on December 16, 1968, the first simbang gabi of the Christmas season. They traveled to Bulacan to married civilly.
